Visiting Forums

If you've ever been searching on the web for how to do something, you've probably ended up from time to time at some forum where there is or was a discussion going that's relevant to your search. These discussion forums are very informal and usually anyone can join in on the conversation. You may have to register for the forum, but it's free and relatively painless.

What some website owners like to do is to seek out forums that are related to the content of their own website. If they have a website all about Chevy Camaros, for example, they might do a Google search for "Chevy Camaro forum." They then join these forums and hop into the discussions in order to publicize their own websites. For instance, they might suggest their website as a resource for folks at the forum, or they might simply leave a link to their website underneath their name when they sign their name.

Of course, there is a cheesy, spam-like way to do this, and a decent way--don't just blow into a discussion and plug your site. Try to find a conversation going on that your wesite actually relates to.

Visiting forums accomplishes two SEO goals: 1.) it gets word out about your website to people in your target audience, and 2.) it creates a link in to your website from the forum. "Link ins" are a powerful thing as far as climbing up search engines' rankings are concerned.

So go make some new friends and do a little p.r. for your new website!
