home page is the very first, or top, page of a website.
You need to tell the computers that run the internet which
page you want people to see first when they type
in your domain name (address). If you don’t, when people
type in your web address, they will only see a list of links
to the pages you created and uploaded.
Creating a home page is very easy to do: the file you name
“index” (index.htm) will automatically be your
home page. When someone types your domain name into his browser,
the internet computers will go to lunarpages,
find your folder and display the file called index.htm. The
index page then, as your home page, should contain links to
the other pages you've created.
Back to our example: So you go back into Dreamweaver
and you change the name of "page1" to "index."
On your index page, you create links to all of your other
pages. You then “put” (upload) your index file.
You call your friend, she types in mywebsite.com, and she’s
blown away that you have your very own website!!
